Zone Alarm internet lock

Jan 23, 2005 8:47PM PST

I've known about this feature since I began using Zone Alarm but never used it. When I started having some problems with unidentified spyware, I decided to try it. I would recommend it to anyone that uses an always on cable connection and leaves their computer on unattended. You can set it up to engage after a certain idle time or when the screen saver starts. It essentially blocks all internet activity until you unlock it. Unlocking is simple. Just right click on the icon, it shows a padlock where the Zone Alarm icon normally is located, and select stop internet lock. Your connection resumes until the next time there is idle time. With all of the hackers and malware out there, this is another means of keeping your computer safe. Gail

If you have Windows automatic updates enabled, which you should, it will not function.

how often do you have updates?

Not often. And besides, this is to protect your computer when it is idle. I don't know about you but, I don't have anything set up to update and install without my knowledge or permission.

If you miss an automatic update, it will be there the next time you reboot. Or do what I do, perform it manually. That way you have control over what is downloaded and installed.
