General discussion

zone alarm free 7.1 and vista

Jul 18, 2007 9:27AM PDT

has anyone seen zone alarm conflict with vista?

i know that people have been having troubles with slowed internet and vista. has anyone seen a zone alarm specific problem with vista especially when on the internet?

the reason i'm asking is that, at least, past versions of za have not been easy to either uninstall or reinstall.

thanks in advance.

If there is a known issue I'm sure they'll be able to tell you in your thread at the Zonealarm forums.

Zone Alarm Free 7.1 Problem!
Jul 25, 2007 8:55AM PDT

I have a new laptop with with Windows Home Basic. I tried installing
Zone Alarm Free and during the install my computer went into a blue screen crash. I also have a new Dell Inspiron desktop... and stupid me tried to install Free version 7.1 on it....same results. I had to do a system restore in the safe mode on both to get my system back.

Yes, I turned off Windows Vista firewall before attempting the install.

Zone Alarm 7.1 Free has an issue with Windows Vista..you have been warned. Happy

I have an issue with ZA 7.1 regardless of O/S

After the last dance to 7 (with all the fluff for antivirus, etc) and it told me that my Comp Assoc anti virus would have to go, I said, Not so fast, and showed ZA the door. Found Comodo to be just the trick- Bye bye zone alarm

i'm still debating...

whether or not to remove za 7.1 from my system. it is not an easy venture to attempt.

nothing bad has happened with it installed. the same conflict with avast is present as it was in XP. i had to turn off avast's web shield to get my internet to fly.

i have not had any hits with za yet. some people are questioning whether it or not it is really functioning. i might wait and see a little while longer.

one fellow suggested to me that by using a router, i already have an external firewall in place, and that za is superfluous. could in fact be the case at the moment.

I share your concerns but...

like you I want to use ZoneAlarm with Vista. I have it running and no problems; however, it has some irregularities for example:

(1) The overview status page has never shown any that has been blocked... total is zero.

(2) Registration never changes from "Registration is pending".

May be others but cannot remember at the moment. Hope's eternal!

Fre Zone Alarm

I also removed Vista Firewall and installed free Zone ALARM For VISTA.
It crashed my computer and I could only boot into Safe Mode.
I had to ADD/REMOVE Zone Alarm to re-boot normally.
Oh yes, I received a Trojan with Vistas (Bells and Whisles).
I had to Reformat my computer.
Bill Gates and Zone Alarm Suck big time.
Thanks to Vista, I had to buy a new printer and Nero 7.
Neither crooks would update for Vista.

for your troubles with vista. actually, it was not my ZA free that was causing my original issue. i realized that I needed to disable avast's web shield because ZA free still conflicts with that aspect of avast anti-virus. after that, my internet began to fly. vista has been smooth running for me so far. of course, my vista came installed on a new computer, so perhaps that accounts for its smooth functioning. anyway, I wish you the best, and I'm sure that things will settle out for you after all.
