Zire71 HotSync Trouble - one will, one won't

Jan 8, 2005 8:59AM PST

I have a Zire 71 that will not hotsync. Everything seems to be connected, but it just sits there and gives me the message "a connection could not be established.." etc. My mom also has a Zire 71 that she hotsyncs on my desktop, so I tried hers to see if it would sync up and it worked just fine - same cradle, computer, everything. I then tried to hotsync both mine and hers to my laptop and the same thing happened, hers worked just fine while mine just sat there doing nothing. Any ideas?

There are some with blown USB ports but...

Run Hotsync on the PDA. Tap the top left word "Hotsync" and the Options menu pops done. Select connection setup and be sure it's on Cradle/Cable. Edit it if you want to check that the Connect to is "PC" and the Via: is Cradle/Cable

Good luck,

Bob

I checked all of it.....and no use
Mar 11, 2005 9:38AM PST

I checked all of that - I even had a problem once where the date on my computer was set way in the future, so it wouldn't sync, but that wasn't the problem. Do you think that if I did a hard reset it would help? I'm reluctant to do it since if it doesn't work all of my info will have to be entered by hand.

I started having trouble about the same time I installed a new SD I got for Christmas. Would that have anything to do with it?

Zire71 HotSync Trouble - one will, one won't
Feb 2, 2005 1:12PM PST

i have the same problem; i know that my cradle is good.
so something must be wrong with the zire 71. i love this palmpilot. it's such a nice screen and it's easy to use. i wonder if this can be repaired?
or is my zire 71 now worthless?
if you, or anyone else, get any answers that would get me hotsyncing again, would you email me at:
cindy013@netzero.net

thanks,

Well I notice..

You didn't tell if you checked the settings I noted.

Why?

As to saving it, you will find the repair cost to be around 1/2 a new unit. I too often find the unit is fine but the owner has no idea that Hotsync can be misconfigured.

Try this....

I was experiencing the same problem. After playing around with it a few times, I found out I have to apply a little pressure to the top off my Zire 71 while in the cradle (almost as if your pushing t down in the cradle for a tight fit for the connection). As soon as I hear my connection beep - I hold it in place and tap my hotsync and wouldn't ya know - I'm syncronized !!!! I have to dp this each time I hotsync, so trust me I know it works - atleast for me!!! Try it and see!

You may be experiencing an internal cable problem
Apr 19, 2005 9:42AM PDT

Since it doesn't look like you can even establish any kind of connection between the Palm and the computer, I'm suspecting that your Palm may be experiencing a deterioration of the internal cable, which is responsible for transferring data, charging, hotsync, etc. Try to see if sliding the camera out a bit while it's connected to the cradle or charger and it's plugged into the wall will change the connection. One way to tell is to turn on the Palm and see if you see a lightning bolt in the battery indicator. If doing this will get you a connection, your Palm's internal cable is breaking.
