zire 71 replacement needed

by simplysibylle / August 14, 2006 8:08 AM PDT

Hi!

My trusty and indispensable palm zire 71 broke this weekend and I am now trying to replace it, but was utterly confused by the range of possible replacements.

I use(d) my zire 71 mainly for
- reading e-books in various formats
- writing my phd
- address book
- various small games (sudoku, solitaire, free cell, etc)

So it seems I don't need one of the high end machines that can do GPS, connect to the internet etc ... I need something mobile to carry around to read and write stuff on - mp3 player, camera etc are all not necessary for me really. However, I do need to be able to use an external disk of some sort, be it a SD card or whatever. The people in the shop suggested the Palm z22, but it can't do that, so... . Other than that and what I said above, I'm open to suggestions regarding the company that made it etc.

Can any of you advise me on what to get?

A super bonus would be being able to keep using the keyboard I bought for the zire 71 with the new machine, as well as the charger I own. But not necessary. Help?

Thanks sooo much!!!

Edit:
The programs I've been using/would like to continue using are:

wordsmith
documents to go
adobe acrobat reader
ereader
isilo
mobipocket
palmfiction

The keyboard is one of those that attach to the bottom of the zire 71, it's made by palm, folded (folds out once) and attached to the same slot one uses to sync the palm.

and german amazon has none, whereas german ebay only seems to have broken or otherwise unreliable ones right now ... otherwise, a good idea and i will keep checking. do you think a zire ordered from the us would work with my german computer ok?

Work, yes, but it may have the wrong language.

The Tungsten T2 uses the same cradle so try that.
