Question

Youtubedownload installer is virus infected !

Dec 21, 2013 10:44AM PST

Today, I downloaded and installed You Tube Downloader version 3.5.184.0 on a Windows 7 computer.

The installer software installed "MySearchDial" virus software ehen YTD was installed. This virus software prevented access to Google and Youtube.

I ran Malwarebytes Anti Malwre.
This deleted "MySearchDial" and the YouTubeDownload installer. I ran this test two times with the same results.

Please advise when a virus fre version of YTD is available and how to download it.

I am trying to report a YTD problem. The latest version do not allow pasting URLs from Youtube.

Answer
Verify any [X] boxes during installs

You may need access to another PC in order to get any s/w that could help you. If you get into "safe mode w/networking" on current PC you should be able to access the WWW that way. Then proceed to get whatever tools you require or updates, etc. to help remove malware. One of newer tools is ADWcleaner, just be sure to get it from the author's website. You may want to use Superantispyware too as another tool.

Some of us are finding that no combination of check boxes during install opts out of these items during install. This is rather new behavior and other mods are comparing notes on this. There's been an uproar at some forums as folk are discovering that something has changed for the worse.

This is my thought. Since they are bad folk, why not just install the crapware since you can always claim they didn't mark the check boxes correctly?

Yeap, my experience

I have been asked more than once to repair PCs, mostly laptops that are getting slow or outright not behaving. This in turn leads to the usual browser add-ons and/or some connection to it. Which is why I have become leery of any toolbars or add-ons that are part of an new install. Even AVAST wants you to add -Google- as part of the install even though that's not malware, it too has an [x] but it works. Regardless, other installs having any so-called d/l manager or your PC needs update pop-up is trouble in the making. While [X] boxes are disregarded to their intend, users still want the end product(s/w) and that only makes my job worse. I have to return and bill the client because the "user" didn't learn the 1st time. Thus a social engineered attack will work when s/w goodies are involved. ie: teenagers with laptops wanting freebies or non-paying services, etc.. So far, I'm able to resolve many of these, but they are getting complex or so-layered in the install that doubts can creep-in. At least when I leave, it's all honky-dory for now. Understand too, the same malware may come in many flavors and what works readily in one case may not in another, but usually another step or two resolves it.

I spend a lot of my time uninstalling these toolbars on family computers. I advise, they don't listen.
Then there's the P2P crap as well.
As Bob said, seems you don't get a choice nowadays.

This is a disaster. Why is this corrupted program even on cnet? I used to think I can trust the programs I download from here but that clearly isnt the case anymore.
Im depending on the current avira on the comp until I can bring home the company laptop tomorrow to download adwcleaner....
Or can you guys suggest a way to clean this up without any special programs?

Sorry no.

Cleanup so far, without special programs is far from assured. SYSTEM RESTORE seems to put it into operation again BUT I found the crapware kicks in and downloads its friends, changes home pages and whatever else it wants to do.

I'm going to upset many at this next sentence. YouTube has an agreement that we won't download their video and as such folk that want the forbidden fruit often are the ones that get their PCs hammered with this issue. You can read whatever you want into that but if folk followed that agreement, they would not have had the fun to follow.

OK, what works for most is Grif's fine advice and a few moderators are exchanging notes about more. But for now, try Grif's post at http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6122_102-5509131.html?tag=posts;msg5509131
