Youtube video on ipod?

Jun 29, 2007 7:21PM PDT

Hey, I just watched the video on cnetv about getting youtube video on your ipod, but it doesnt work.
I downloaded the lastest version of real player (10.5) and went to youtube look up the exact same video that was used by Rich Demuro and it still didnt work.
I know I'm just supposed to install the real player and then just go to a site that has unprotected flash videos hover over the video and the realplayer button should show up, but it doesnt, on any video.

Any suggestions?

For Flash Videos...

..which are generally the type used on YouTube, I use the program below for playing them on a standard computer after I've saved them from the site.. I'm not sure whether it will work on your iPod.

On the other hand, if you're going to convert them from flash video files (.flv) to some other file type, RealPlayer, or Windows Media Player should do it.. Please give us the file type that you're trying to play or give us a link to the instructions you've been attempting.

Hope this helps.

well I cant give you a link, because I saw the tutorial on cnet tv and it is a flash application, so there is no link, you just go to cnet tv and search for youtube on you ipod or something like that.

I really dont care what format the video is on, I will probably convert it to mp4, but right now I'm just trying to download it.

Thanks, check out the video from cnet tv.

Well...Yes, There Is A Link...

And the flash tutorial by Rich Demuro, (I hope), is the one at the link below. Note the "Copy URL" button below the video.(It always helps if YOU help US a little so we can solve your issue.):

I happen to have RealPlayer on my computer as well but I don't have it set as the "Default" player for all file types. That option may be required because it doesn't work here either.. There also should be a "Macromedia Flash Real Player Plugin" installed on your computer for it to work.. Check your "Preferences" settings to see if those items are set up.

Actually, I save such Youtube videos in a number of ways... Sometimes by first using the link below to save/extract the Youtube flash videos to an .flv file, then converting later.

I can also convert the file to an appropriate file format directly from YouTube with one of the various online converters, such as the one at the link below which allows you to save as MP4. The conversion does take a few minutes though depending on you connection speed.:

AFter it's converted, you'll need to sync it to your iPod.

Hope this helps.
