YouTube problem

Sometimes when I want to view a YouTube video, the page freezes. I then see the following message: Stop running this script? I click on Yes, but nothing happens. Eventually, I have to enter Ctrl Alt delete to get out of the page. I use Internet Explorer and the problem has been happening more and more frequently. Is there something I can do to correct this problem?

Is there any way to reopen this question? The issue has not been resolved after all. I have no problem when using Firefox, but my main browser is IE.

Continue using the malware scanning tools I recommended earlier, UNTIL you find nothing..

Once that's done, since it's IE that's having the problem, then reset the IE settings back to default like this:

Open the Control Panel, then "Internet Options", then select the "Advanced" tab. Once there, click on the "Reset" button at the bottom of the window and choose "Yes/OK" when it asks "Are you sure?".

After doing, so, you may want to uninstall, then reinstall Flash one more time.

Problem solved

Thanks again, Grif. The YouTube problem is now solved. After doing a full scan, I discovered more malware. YouTube is working fine again. But I'm a computer dummy, and resetting IE has given me a whole set of new problems to solve, such as how to keep a message from reappearing every time I go to a new page: "Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely?" I'll post them in a new thread.

First, it might help if we knew which operating system you're using and which version of Internet Explorer..

1. Try the steps below to disable hardware acceleration. It's helped some of the freezing problems for a number of folks here.

Check if you can see the Flash animation (banner) without the system crashing at:
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Don't worry, it's not a video, it shouldn't crash -- if it does, this won't fix your issue. If it works without crashing, right-click on the Flash animation (banner) and uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration" from the Settings panel. You should now be able to view the YouTube videos without crashing the computer.

And on Windows 7 computers, some folks are finding relief for your issue in Internet Explorer, by opening the Control Panel-Internet Options-Advanced tab.. Once there, place a CHECK mark in the box next to "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering", then click on "apply", then OK.

2. Choose "NO" when it asks to stop running the script.

3. Try a different browser such as the free Firefox from the link below:

Hi Grif, I'm using Windows XP 2002 and IE 8. I can see the Flash animation banner without crashing. When I get to settings, all I see is "Allow adobe.com to access your camera and microphone?"

When you get to the Flash banner in the link above, RIGHT click in the middle of it, choose "Settings" from the menu, then click on the little TV picture in the lower left-hand side of the screen to change the screen display, then UNCHECK the "Enable hardware acceleration".

More information is going to be necessary..Look in your Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs and...

Which version of Flash are you running? What make and model is your computer? (Processor speed, amount of RAM?)

Although you mentioned you're using XP, are you on Service Pack 3 and fully up to date?

Please provide a link to a Youtube video which would cause the problem?

Tried downloading/installing the free Firefox browser to see if Firefox works better?

It's possible you have way too many background programs running on the computer and it's using up resources therefore causing the lockups.. Try the "Cleanup Steps" below to eliminate some of the junk on the computer.

First, uninstall unneeded programs from the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs section..

Next, make sure you have no spyware which is slowing things down. Please download, install, update, then run the free spyware removal program from the link below:

Malwarebytes Antimalware

Next, follow ALL of the steps in the instructions below. Shut down unnecessary start up programs and services, PLUS delete all the junk files from the computer. It may take a while to perform all the procedures, but it will help the machine run and boot quicker:

For Windows 2000/XP, ignore the first couple of sentences about checking "resources" and the "Performance tab in the link below but follow the rest of the procedures including the "Services" links at the bottom.

Now clean out the junk files:

After following all the procedures above, run Error Checking/Chkdsk and Defrag to optimize the hard drive:

Thanks for taking the time to try to help, Grif. I have a Dell Inspiron 545. Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. 3.24 GB of RAM. Other than the YouTube problem my computer's running fine. I guess I'll just stop using YouTube. It's way too much trouble to go through all the steps you've described. But again, thank you very much for your help.

New problem

I had Adobe Flash Player 11 but decided to download it again to see if the other problem would be resolved. I guess I should have uninstalled it first, but anyway now I can't complete installation. When I start Internet Explorer I get a message asking me if I want to install it. Then an error message saying Flash Player installer will automatically continue when these conflicting applications are closed: Internet Explorer. So I'm between a rock and a hard place. How can I install it if I don't have a browser? I tried rebooting but I still get the same message.

OK, I closed IE when the Flash Player installation message appeared and successfully reinstalled it. I also found 3 malware programs using the software you recommended: Adware.MyWeb. I just tried YouTube and it's working fine. Thanks for all your help, Grif.
