Question

Youtube play buttons missing in Facebook posts

I had embedded many Youtube videos to my Facebook timeline and all of them had play buttons before enabling the videos to be watched on the Facebook timeline itself. Just a few days back all the play buttons were suddenly missing from the embedded Youtube videos and clicking on any of the images of the videos would bring me right to the Youtube website in order to watch it. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this problem so that the play buttons will reappear on all the Youtube videos posted to my Facebook timeline? Thanks a lot for any advice relating to this matter.

Youtube play buttons missing in Facebook posts

They won''t play YouTube videos within the post now.

Dear All,

It looks like this behavior is actually by design.

In our efforts to make News Feed an even more visual and engaging place to connect, we have been introducing new design updates in News Feed beginning in August 2017.

As part of these updates and to provide a consistent experience across desktop and mobile, external video link posts (both paid and organic) on desktop will look and function similar to other link posts. People will now tap on the links to go off of Facebook to watch videos instead of watching within News Feed — mirroring the experience available for such posts on mobile.

Thank you,
Spencer

Workaround

Facebook now prevents this. My workaround is to download the video; Scale it to a smaller size (Facebook Timeline size); Then upload it to my Facebook. Interestingly enough, I've found that posting a video in a comment will embed automatically like a post used to.
