Question

Youtube is playing at low resolution and low speed

Mar 26, 2017 3:22PM PDT

Hi all,

I have a LG 49UB820V, which is an ULTRA HD and in the YouTube app it always plays at 1280x780.

I understand that it plays based on the internet bandwidth and there are two problems:

1. My internet connection is: 200mbps.
The internet speed that I see there is 12mbps via LAN and 35-50mbps via WIFI.

First of all, why is the speed so much significantly lower? I connected the same LAN cable into my laptop and got the full 200mbps speed.

I can only think of some TV limitation or some router limitation (I doubt it)

2. Why at 50mbps the resolution stays 1280x780?

Make this a warranty issue.

It doesn't go back anywhere, since it's 2.5 years old.

Also, problem can be in the app, not in the TV.

I would assume that it's more of a software issue and someone had a similar thing?

As to your last question yes.

There are plenty of reports about Youtube issues on older sets. Google wrote the app, runs the service and changes can result in app problems to the app being pulled.

Only LG and Google can give you a straight answer. I know how it all works but it's not something we can usually fix.

Just to cover what support usually does.

1. Is the firmware current? (If not, update.)
2. Perform a factory reset. (varies with make and model.)
3. Try the DNS of 8.8.8.8 (support tells you how.)

After that it's all up to LG and Google. Since Google wrote the app and runs the service, well you can imagine how slow they are to respond and how rare a fix is.

Yes, i can imagine they will give some very general info and general stuff to try.

I was wondering if someone else has the same issue, then I know that it's a general issue and not mine specifically..

Something I just noticed that it says that DIMENSIONS are 1280x720, so I think it's not even trying above it. don't know where it's taking it from, though..

Grinding it too finely?

I know folk have issues with the YouTube app on smart TVs. I know what I do next but you may be waiting forever to find someone with the exact same issue.

Hope this helps you move past the waiting period.

Hm.. not really waiting for anything, just asking if other people who has the same OS experienced the same thing Happy

I hope I will not wait forever, there should be enough people with this TV model or a similar with the same OS..

Sorry I didn't think of this before.
