Question

Your opinion regarding our website

Feb 14, 2013 12:06AM PST

I'd like to convince my boss that we need a new website - we had it done over 5 years ago. She thinks it would cost too much to have a new one - but with all the new templates and WordPress, I think we could have a new one for a reasonable price.

I'd like your feedback please - could you take a look at www.artsnw.org (Arts Northwest) and give me your opinion of the design?

Thanks!

Jean

Answer
Just a first impression.

Sorry but this is just my impression and it's "Not bad."

If it was mine I'd be tempted to tweak things a little. Such as that box with the Twitter, Facebook icon in it. I'd be looking for some balance of the empty space in that box to get the icons to "sit well" and look like they were not slapped into place.

But it's a nice page and if it's working well I'd just get out the tools to do some fine tuning.

Thanks for your opinion, Bob.

I'm not able to change the size and shape of the fragment where our Facebook/Twitter live so I added some text to the nugget and hopefully it looks better now. I'm so tired of the yellow/black/blue colors but our webmaster says it will take a lot of work for him to change the colors.

I see you see what I saw.

Let me tip my hand a little. One of my projects are apps on handhelds. Today we call these things "smart phones" but I started long ago when it was a "Palm Pilot."

Given the rather small (or big?) screen we would always give the screen a quick look to see how the elements "felt" on the page. There's entire courses taught on this and I've heard it called many names over the years but for me, it's the feel you get when you see the elements laid out on the page.

Your page is fine so I shared an area that felt like the items had that random dropped on the area look. Adding the text helped that a bit.

-> It's nice to start with a good page and not one of those disaster pages.
