General discussion

You've added some irritating unnecessary crap.

Mar 28, 2011 10:32PM PDT

Whenever I download an application from Cnet, (Or anywhere else, for that matter.)I also copy/paste the description information into a text file that accompanies the application in my downloads folder. You've added a "Read More" blurb to each separate copy/paste I make making it necessary to go back and delete this useless crap from my text file. PLEASE STOP IT!

Two questions:
1. Don''t you like you automatically get the download link in your documentation file? Seems useful information to me.
2. How do you mean "Go back". You're in the Notepad file already when you paste, so it just a question of shift-up-up-del to delete the line you don't want. Hardly a nuisance, I'd say.

This is an added benefit in my personal opinion.

Just as Kees stated I also always find it useful to have the referencing link to the content I copied and pasted, this way I can always have the link handy to refer back to the area in case I need additional information.

And is deleting a couple line of text really that bothersome?

In all honesty, I think CNET implemented this as an added benefit to whoever comes and visit our site, so they wouldn't have to take the extra step to copy and paste the URL for referencing for content that may find useful in near term, but that's just how I view this personally.

Likewise, but if you really must be rid of it...

That functionality is fairly common now, and it most commonly provided by Tynt. Thus, if you really want to stop the link from being appended, you could always just block tynt.com using your choice of ad or script blockers. That would prevent it from working on thousands of popular websites, enabling you to copy-and-paste relatively unfettered.

Hope this helps,
John
