Question

"...you need to connect your PC to the internet" ???

Jun 24, 2013 10:42PM PDT

Hello everyone, I have a simple question I think.
Everyday when I start up my laptop , a TOSHIBA Satellite C655 with Windows 7 ,
I get this notification when windows opens up,

"To check for software upgrades, you need to connect your PC to the internet 'Continue' 'Cancel'

It is presented at the bottom right corner of the screen in a small, simple white landscaped window box .
There are no labels associated to it at all.
Im already connected to the internet and have no issues in that. I cancel it each time of course and it disappears only to reappear every time I start-up.
Is this anything to be concerned about?
We have Kaspersky and I run Spybot all the time.
If this is only a glitch in this system Id like to know how to wipe it out..
I just want to be safe when I see this pop up..Ive told my wife not to press 'continue'
To reiterate, our laptop is ALREADY connected when that shows up...Thanks all

To- find out what program is issuing that message, compare the process list of Task Manager when that message is on the screen and after you clicked cancel. It helps to sort it alphabetically!

If you know, please post back.

Compare - but what am I looking to see?
Aug 22, 2014 9:16AM PDT

Hi, I have almost the exact same message - color etc, only mine says "To check for new device software, connect your PC to the internet and press "Continue".

"Continue" "Cancel"

I have just been doing nothing - not clicking anything for fear either answer will infect computer worse than already is.

I am running tasks but don't know what to look for. You said to compare the two - the mesasge & task - but I don't know what to look for after pressing cancel - so am not planning to try it. Can you or someone explain more about this? Thanks.

I used process explorer and found that it was from Verizon 2.0 UA for Android (the Samsung update software).

If that doesn't work for you - load Microsoft's process explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653

Then click on the round target icon (just to the right of the binoculars) - hold this down and drag it over the window. It will then tell you what program is causing the pop-up.

I think that was the problem as that is the phone / service I have. I haven't followed up on this thread, sorry - thanks for the help!
