Yet another "which player should I get" topic

May 24, 2008 8:03AM PDT

I'm going to be using the player for music almost exclusively so video isn't a concern really though a nice screen would be welcome.

I use mostly mp3 (vbr, eac) up to 392kbps with some flac sprinkled in, all unprotected. I don't have an audiophile's ear but I can tell crap from wow and would like sound quality to fall nearer to wow.

It absolutely must be simple drag and drop (Win Xp) and require little to no conversion with good transfer speeds.

At least 16gb and under $300 with a pocketable form factor.

I don't mind pre-playlisting on the desktop as I typically do whole album listens on an hour and a half commute. This is also why battery life is critical.

That's about all I can think of at the moment. Any and all help is deeply appreciated.

Looks good

I hadn't heard of it but research proves it quite impressive. The expandability is wonderful. I hesitate only because of the touch screen as I'm the sort to be driven nuts by smudging.

Really though the features are more than enough to make up for that. If no one has a better suggestion you may have just picked my first portable media player. Thank you Mr. Titor.

You can't buy that one! That's the one I'm buying! Happy I'm going balls-to-the-wall hardcore and getting a 16GB D2 + 16GB Transcend SD card + Sennheiser PX100's (probably) for $355 on Amazon! You gonna be as hardcore as me? Grin

Now there's D2+

and a software update to 2.11. The BBE etc can make ANY earphones (almost) sound spectacular with spacious 3d sound, filigree treble and big firm soft natural bass.

Plus 52 hrs playtime between charging.

The Cowon S9 calls some now though.
