Yet another survey

Feb 19, 2004 2:31AM PST

Hi Everyone,

This time it's pizza - what kind of toppings do you like?

My fave is pepperoni, black olives, bell peppers. Mushrooms too, sometimes.

NOT cookies! It's the History file
Feb 20, 2004 11:58PM PST

Anyone who wipes out their browser history to "cover tracks" will fall victim.

Re:NOT cookies! It's the History file.....Well you must be speaking broadly...

Three methods will wipe it out on my WinXP IE, anyone of which will do it:

1. Delete the CNet and ZDNet cookies together

2. Delete the Temp Internet Files or Cache

3. Delete the History Files

The new "Read" is better than nothing, however in the old system only deleting the CNet/ZDNet COOKIES would wipe out the highlighted 'Read'.

- Collapse -
We know ...
Feb 21, 2004 4:49AM PST

... that the read function works off your browser history file. In the old SE it was a function of the cookie, because if you were in read-only mode they weren't marked read. Now whether or not I'm logged in, the posts I read by clicking on them (and not the "next" button) show read. If I use a different browser, they don't because they are not in that history file. I can wipe out just my cookies and it doesn't change a thing. AAMOF, I use Opera just for SE and have it configured to delete cookies on exit and my read links stay read.

Ah...Opera...

Have it with IE on our Win98se puter that wife uses. Will check it out.

Got it back when ...

... we had to do the browser workaround. Using it for here meant not messing with the settings on the usual browser. Decided to keep it that way because I still prefer my colors to CNets.

Err....restarting PC after doing any of above deletions, then "Read" is gone for me.

That is odd ...
Feb 21, 2004 5:05AM PST

... because I'm pretty sure that read only uses the history file. Read used to be in the cookies in the old SE, but don't seem to be here. Does what is shown as read change in one IE session when you log in or out of the forum?

Good to see you!
Feb 19, 2004 9:52AM PST

If it's the real thing -- thin crust NY style -- then plain cheese please!

But, I also like spinach & sausage, meatball & bacon or mushroom.

Can anyone tell me why shaved and crumbled sausage taste somehow different on pizza? (I prefer the shaved)

Any of those other pizzas must come with a good sauce, then generally add sausage or pepperoni.

I do enjoy good old plain Sicilian slices. Haven't had one in ages. Used to be able to eat 3 as a teenager, have a hard time finishing 1 now. But I've only ever had a really good slice at a couple of places.

Does this mean we'll be seeing more of you? Hope so!

Hi Evie,

Thanks for the welcome - good to 'see' you too!

Hmmm, seems like that New Yawk pizza must be pretty darn good : only cheese? Josh and Charlie seem to concur. There are plenty of pizzerias here in Houston, but I don't know which would be considered 'authentic'.

without anchovies or olives. The first half is easy to find - you have to work at getting them to put anchovies on. The second half is impossible to find - they seem to put olives on everything. I spend so much time picking the damn olives off that the pizza is cold before it is suitable for me to eat.

From a REAL Italian restaurant. Plain with extra cheese and foldable crust. My favorite is from a little place in PA. They throw the cheese and toppings on first and then ladle the sauce on top. Makes it less likely to get slapped in the chin when the cheese pulls off Happy

Am I getting it wrong about splattering as many dinner guests as possible?...and
Feb 20, 2004 5:13AM PST

then having to put your best blouse or shirt into the highest temperature wash possible and pay for everyone else's dry-cleaning bills?

This is something about which I must go off and do more research...

Darn, I really am gonna have to research this if I don't know what Rolaids are ...
Feb 20, 2004 7:59AM PST

Are Rolaids those big white sheets with the hole cut out in the middle so that your guests can put them on over their heads like a smock, like we use over here? Or the indigestion tablets that you put in the "party bag" when your guests leave? Or maybe these Rolaids are like a magic wand of some sort??

Gosh I've got a lot to learn...

Hi Mo.

Ha, Ha You are half way there. They are the Magic Wand for your stomach. I have to chew half a roll after eating Italian food.

The big white sheets are for Spaggetti

the false nose and beard. I know mine are here somewhere, because it's the set I always use when eating in a Chinese restaurant with chopsticks. I'm OK with prestidigitation but I doubt I'll ever manage to master anything bigger than a match box with chopsticks Sad

Word from the wise. If you do go to the restaurant bring a Flack jacket. I was in one years ago in Boston and when they pull the pizza out, its flipped in the air.(Some kind of custom I think) Sometimes it takes off. So stay out of line of fire.
