Yet another survey

Feb 19, 2004 2:31AM PST

Hi Everyone,

This time it's pizza - what kind of toppings do you like?

My fave is pepperoni, black olives, bell peppers. Mushrooms too, sometimes.

I'm a purist; I like mine plain. Occasionally maybe pepperoni.

Thin crust!

After that, double cheese, pepperoni, ham, and green olives.

Meat lover's if I'm at Pizza Hut.

If you want to to go for a low-fat version of pepperoni pizza ...
Feb 19, 2004 4:57AM PST

take it off, cook the pizza, and whack the pepperoni in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Then put it back on the pizza minus the fat - et voila. OK the spoilsport version - sorry.

Pizza Hut?

C'mon, we're only talking about real pizza in this thread, aren't we?

Hi Josh,

Hey, we have to live with what's available to us! I'd rather have a pie from Uno's in Chicago, but a 6 hour drive (one way) for dinner is a bit prohibitive! Wink

Josh, was this a reply to me? Because ....
Feb 19, 2004 6:19AM PST

I was only throwing in my twopennyworth (with a "sorry" suffix). As a non-meat eater, it does mean that I can cook pepperoni pizzas for others without putting up with that "yummy smell" for any longer than necessary!

OTOH I knew I was on dodgy ground, because most folks in Europe think that pizzas were invented in Italy, whereas I believe that the reality is that they were actually invented in the US. I should have known better than to try to consort with the experts. Darn, I've got to go and stand in the corner again (as we say)! (wink)

Hi Mo
Yes, The pizza was invented in the US. I've been trying to find out where. I think it was in NYC or Jersey. Maybe Josh knows.

Naples might disagree...
Feb 20, 2004 8:19AM PST

The people in Naples, Italy might disagree. In the 1500's the basic idea caught on. In the 1600's, it appears to have acquired the name pizzaioli.

Hi J
Hmmmmm. I wonder what version of Pizza that would be. Very old for sure. But, maybe Italian Pizzaioli is different than American Pizza.
I know I saw it somewhere that pizza originated in the US, not Italy. I'll have to research this further.

I'm sure the Italians would not let the US steal their Pizzas.

Thanks for the info J

I find the cheese awful stringy at Pizza Hut, but the kids like it. I prefer Dominos.

Domino's??

Tell ya what, G. If the Sox go all the way this year, instead of a steak I'll buy you a real New York pizza pie. Sound good?

Hi Josh

Terrific. I'm on the way. I heard they are good.
However, I may be the one buying.

I'm going to shoot you a link under new discussion because I don't want to screw up Richards Pizza discussion here.

Few places Josh...
Feb 19, 2004 6:51AM PST

There are very few places that make them the traditional way. Pizza Hut or Domino's are definitely not among them! Di Fara is one of them at Avenue J and E 15th in Brooklyn. WHOLE milk Mozzarella and good cheeses. Unfortunately it was Ray's who started with the cheaper cheeses and made the rest of them follow. But some made it and refused to follow him, thank God!

Wife and I get the Dominos vegetarian. Better than most would think. (nt)

Re:Yet another survey - goody!! :)
Feb 19, 2004 6:31AM PST

I love Richard's surveys. Happy

In order of preference:
1. - Taco pizza with the works (some don't consider that a "true pizza", but I like it)
2. - Canadian bacon, extra cheese, fresh tomatoes
3. - Chicken with garlic and white sauce

Hi Marcia,

I'm curious - just what is a taco pizza?

Taco Pizza..........
Feb 19, 2004 11:48PM PST

Pretty much what it sounds like, I guess.
It has the usual crust (thin is best), spread on refried beans (if you like), then put on the seasoned taco meat, and cover with all the usual taco goodies, like shredded lettuce, green onions, cheese, tomatoes, olives - whatever you like on a taco! Use your favorite taco sauce to make it even more messy Happy

Yum! Yum!

Marcia
P.S. Thanks for the fun survey, Richard. It does seem to bring us all "together" in an enjoyable, lighthearted way. Happy

Hi, Rick,

Good to see you back! Missed you!

Any kind of sausage and/or pepperoni, onions, green peeper, mushrooms, and LOTS of cheese!

But, I'm not picky, so can take a couple of less toppings or a couple more. Just so there is LOTS of cheese! Happy If I have to suffer, just LOTS of cheese will do. Happy

and thanks for the welcome. This new software seems much faster, but a few features - "mark as read" - are missing. I know, supposedly they're going to be added later! (hopefully soon?)

I know it's hard to see, but look REAL close, and you'll notice that the subject line in the posts you have read have changed color - to a pale red. That's the "marked as read" ("marked as red" Wink ) now available.

It took me a while to notice it.
