Yamakawa MR240

Anyone tried the Yamakawa MR240 MP3 Player?? Just ordered one, seemed like a good deal. Can't seem to find any U.S. opinions on it? Found it on Ecost.com.

Do you like it?

I also ran across the Yamakawa MR240 on Ecost and tried to find reviews on the internet. It looks like there is a lot of information if you speak German but unfortunately I do not.

I found your post and registered so I could find out what you think. I look forward to hearing about it. Thanks

Yamakawa MR240

I have had it almost 2 months. The sound if very good, I did change the ear phones that came with it. It is very easy to use, and very small and light weight. I really like the ideal of the connector for the USB gets pushed out of the way when not in use. I know alot of people who have lost the cap to the players that have them. You get about 8 hours play time out of the battery, I think I am going to get a rechargable. The only thing I am having trouble with is the playlist, it doesnt seem to work. I contacted tech support and they sent me a e-mail that says a new firmware update is coming to fix that problem. So far the tech support has been very good. I have e-mailed them three different times with questions and they seem to get back with the answers very fast. Overall for the money it is a good MP3 player, it will be even a better player when the firmware update is available for the playlist.

Did you see the MR500 5gb player is on sale for $150 from ecost (after $50 rebate)? It seem to have a huge list of features. Thanks for your reply regarding the MR240.

Yamakawa 550 nothing but trouble
Aug 20, 2005 11:01PM PDT

I'm glad I held off on submitting the rebate.
I am going to have to return this thing if I don't figure out how to make it record in mp3 mode. I've followed the manual very carefully but the only rec-setting that will toggle is Source, not Format or Sample-rate. It will only record in Voice mode whatever I do. I even did the firmware upgrade [that took a lot of attempts too]. Can't find ANY help online. To top it off, after playing the 8kHz sample-rate recordings I did make and x-fer to PC, Musicmatch now refuses to play ANYTHING, saying "WaveOut format not supported", even for MP3s that used to play fine. [Problem remains after reseating the sound card].
My firmware ver is now 5.007, or 101-001-108-pdl. Int media 4728. It seemed so promising. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanx in advanx!

Yamakawa 550 not as advertised.

Sorry to reply to myself, but I've since found a German eview where the user appears to be describing the same Problem:
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.soundtrack-world.de/Yamakawa-MR-540-Tragbarer-MP3-Player-und-Recorder-4-GB-(exklusiv-bei-amazon.de)-_895/mp3player.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dyamakawa%2B550%2Bmp3%2Bproblem%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG
and I quote ''.. the equipment cannot be adjusted to MP3! YAMAKAWA (by telephone) in ''the next days'' the update promises on the homepage down to be loaded will have, which that problem to repair is. I am times strained. To throw it on the Mrkt before it functions at all...''
So it's not just me apparently. But I sure can't find any Yamakawa site with firmware downloads to check. Will just have to run the firmware update utility and watch for new versions that way.
