First I suggest that if that email was not sent to you by someone that you know or a respective company, get rid of it.
Based on what you said I happens, I highly doubt that it a virus. If it is anything malicious, its most likely a spyware or firmware script(hidden scripts that download spyware or firmware to your system).
Or, this could be a friendly script that resembles some malicious coding that your security software is aware of.
In either case what would happen is that the script to either open the link or download something would minimize your browser and attempt to open in a new window. However because the security software detects it as a malicious script, it quickly closes the window and disables the script even if it was friendly. Since your browser was minimized, it defaults to your desktop. This occurs alot when you use various security programs together.
If you know it is a safe link, the only way to really view it is by loosening your security by configuring your programs to prompt you to allow the script to run or try opening it from a different computer. In other words, the security on your computer could be too tight for you to open this link.
Or to add a little more logic to it, it could simply be a bad link. If the link is in the form of an address, try typing it in the address bar. If its not in the form of an address, move your mouse over it until the address appears at the bottom left corner of the screen in the status bar. Then type it into the address bar.
Hope that helps.
I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this problem or not but when I go into my Yahoo Mail and try to click onto a link in an email that was sent to me my screen will disappear and go back to my Desktop screen. This action will not kick me offline or anything but it is awfully annoying. Can anyone help me try and solve this? Is this maybe because of some trojan/virus? I have WinXP Professional and have multiple virus scanning programs that I keep up todate daily. Thanks for any possible and all solutions that you may send.
