yahoo messenger- sending emails? huh

Dec 3, 2003 12:24PM PST

at times zonealarm tells me that yahoo messenger is trying to sent an email- im lost- i say no- but it keeps happening- more info-Yahoo! Messenger is trying to connect to the Internet or your local network First, bear in mind that the program that caused this alert may or may not be the program indicated by the file name YPager.exe. Trojan horses and other malware sometimes masquerade as legitimate programs by using the same file name.

If you are certain that YPager.exe is legitimate and properly named:

Give Yahoo! Messenger permission to connect. See the Details tab to learn how to do this.
ive run panda- adaware- rav- avg- nothing found- has anyone else had this happen?

Yahoo messenger - NOT emails

It is an instant messaging program (chat). If you don't use it, uninstall it. It may have been installed when you installed your browser or another program.

While you're at it, you can check out the other programs that are running at startup. It might speed up your PC.

Lisa,

First, do you have Yahoo Messenger installed and running in the background? If so, then it may be legitimate. Click on the link below and check to make sure that the file is located in the correct folder. (I believe it's located at "c\Program\ Files\Yahoo\Messenger/ypager.exe":

WinTasks Process Library ypager - ypager.exe - Process Information

Next, to be sure, run a free online backup scan by clicking on the link below and running the scan it provides:

Panda Antivirus Online Scan

Second, here are some links that might help you with your decision about what to do:

Fake Yahoo Messenger from Pest Patrol

Fake Yahoo Messenger/PWSteal.BStroj

Hope this helps and let us know what you find.

Internet Explorer sometimes shows up as Windows Explorer in the ZA program list. Just one of the things that can happen when the browser is integrated into the operating system.
