Yahoo messenger/chat help

I have researched the archives here and can't find this one. Please forgive me if this has already been posted.

For about a year, I have been doing a "disappearing act" in yahoo chat. My typing is visible to everyone in the room for about 5 mins then disappears. If I leave the room at that point, I can not get back in for about 10 mins. If I just sit and wait, my typing will reappear. This happens to a few other people online in the room, but not all of us.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled almost all older versions of ym (yes really i have)and even have purchased a brand new computer with a clean start. Still the same problem. New ISP, still same problem. Contacting yahoo just gives you a generic response because YM is free.

I have Win XP sp2, and connect using broadband.

Any ideas? Anyone else heard or have this problem? It's very frustrating. Oh BTW---voice chat always works fine with this. Thanks Smallworld
