Yahoo and Mozilla

Mar 13, 2004 2:30AM PST

Recently upgraded to SBC/Yahoo DSL. Since then I have been unable to access my Yahoo mail from Mozilla mail
as I used to do to avoid logging in and out on each
account. I also changed from Mozilla 1.4 to 1.6. Has anyone run into this problem? I don't know if it is Yahoo
being nasty or version 1.6 problems. TIA chuck

If it worked in Moz 1.4, it would lend itself to being a Y! issue if it no longer works. Your best bet is to try and work this out with Y!.

Talked to SBC/Yahoo. They claim they don't support Mozilla. Sounds funny, though. They admit to supporting Netscape 4-6-7, but the spot for 5(which Mozilla is built on) is vacant. Never had a problem with ANYTHING else before. Still, it could be Mozilla 1.6. Have noticed some
other things, like password manager not offering to save profiles nad passwords. chuck

Actually, Netscape 6 and 7 are based on Mozilla not the other way around. So if they say it will work with Netscape 6 and 7, then it will work with Mozilla. Orginally Mozilla was to be based on Netscape 5 code, but the Mozilla developers decided it was a lost cause to try and fix it, so they tossed it out after a year of development and started from scratch (which if Microsoft hadn't sat on the browser market suffocating Netscape out of business, Netscape planned to do anyway after 5.0).

Netscape 6 is based on code a few weeks prior to the Mozilla 1.0 release, Netscape 7 IIRC is based on something around Mozilla 1.4 code.

The instructions for setting up things with Netscape 6 and 7 should apply to Mozilla as well. If that doesn't work, lie and say you're using Netscape 7 or something. A lot of people in phone tech support are what you call punters. They're going to be looking for ANY excuse they can to blame something else for the problem so that you hang up the phone and they can get to the next person. You have to be clever enough to translate any differences in instructions in real-time.

You're correct. My info on Mozilla and Netscape 5 comes from an earlier version. Good to know I can hit them with
Netscape 7, or use those instructions. Wouldn't be a lie if Mozilla IS built on Netscape 7. Thanks. Just like Linux, you have to sift through everything until you figure out the right info. chuck
