Yahoo ambush!

Jun 24, 2010 10:23AM PDT

At least once a day my vista alerts me to a software change that needs my permission to continue. I cancel the change only to have my internet explorer home page being changed from my preferred Google home page to a Yahoo home page. HELP!

That warning window

Is there a "More details" option in that window?

If not, what exactly does the window tell you, any information at all?

If you have any Yahoo components added to IE, eg toolbar, I would remove it. You may want to look at IE > Tools > Manage Add-ons, then the "Search providers" options.

Yahoo ambush

Mark,

The window that pops up is only a vista permission window that I cancel/deny the install when it occurs. I think there is a 'more details' option but since I know I don't want yahoo I was afraid if I clicked on that option I would be allowing the install. I checked Tools/manage add-ons as you suggested and saw that I had already disabled any yahoo components. What next?

OK.

I think we need to know that "More details", if available.

It won't install without you clicking OK.

By the way, you are right to ask. If you don't know what is being installed, then you generally don't want it.
