Can you tell more about the supposed BIOS-problem?
Why (not being a tech, as you state yourself) do you exclude, for example, the possibility that it was a RAM-problem or a CPU-problem or a bad-cap problem?
All you can do is call Dell customer service and use your warranty. Hopefully they won't ask the questions that lets you give the answer that voids your warranty.
I hace a Dell Studio XPS 1640, 4G, service TAG 8NLL8K1. It had a bios problem, I reflashed the bios and all was fine. The bios problem then re-occurred. When this happens the laptop crashes, gives a crash/memory dump message and then shuts off. After 20 minutes or so the computer will turn on, start up, and boot. However this time while re-flashing BIOS the crash occurred before the reflash was complete. The blue crash/memory dump message appreared and never went off. After being on for a few hours I unplugged the laptop and removed the battery, (the drive was still spinning). Now the computer will cut on but won't start or boot up. After the initial synchronized flashing of lights the speaker up and down light and an x light next to them flashes 17 times the key board lights up and then after 3 more flashes the computer shuts off. Please help I am a functional windows user but nothing close to a tech. Is there any hope as the laptop is only 5 months old?
