XP WPA wireless Internet will not connect

Jan 12, 2013 5:19AM PST

I have an HP computer running XP and I cannot get it connected to the internet. I can see available networks, can even connect to an open network, but not my own. I have rebooted, turned on/off the wireless switch, removed and manualy configured the connection via properites, but no go. I know I have the right password and network.

As a starter, turn off the protection and see if you can login without password (it's "open" then). Then set the password to something simple (one character) and try all WPA-modes.

By the way, which servicepack of XP do you run? You need SP2 or SP3 to have support for WPA.

I have SP 3.

I attempted to connect "open" via the properties, I put in my password when prompted upon connection try. It seemed to connect, as it said "connected" but only for a minute. It just keeps trying now saying "acquiring network address"

Ugh. Any other ideas?

XP and WPA = not going to work.

Just last month I installed XP at the office and wanted to see how it would respond to a WPA protected WiFi. It did exactly what you reported.

After updating to XP SP3 and installing a newer WiFi driver it worked.
