Why use such a new drive with such old OS'es? That gives problems.
The easy way out, maybe: get a diskette drive. And the diskette with the SATA driver for your OS. Then, somewhere in the setup of XP, press f6 to tell the setup to get the driver for this device from the diskette.
It might be far easier to disconnect the SATA drive during the install of XP, than add it later. At that time, you should be able to load the driver from a CD.

I have a sata hard drive recognised in bios as third master but not in device manager in xp or ME. I can fdisk,format and setup ME but when I try to set up xp home edition the blue screen loads drivers at bottom then message cannot recognise hard drive check hard drive and controllers press f3 to exit. I do not have a floppy drive. can you help?
