XP won't finish booting

My hp pavilion ze5000s laptop with xp home edition stops at the blue windows xp welcome screen every time i try to turn it on. I don't want to loose the files on my computer and i can't find the disks that came with the computer to restore it. Please help

As this point, I would suggest that you press F8 while the computer is booting up--e.g. while at or right after the momory test--whereby you will be presented with the boot menu. Choose "...last good configuration...." and follow screen instructions.

There's not much to do and the charges for the tow truck just add insult to injury.

But it's time to make the calls to get those restore CDs on order. Much cheaper than a trip to the repair shop.

The only suggestion I can offer in regard to access, is to use the F8 keystroke before the welcome splash screen, to see if you can get into safe mode. You can run system restore from safe mode, it can be an option to try.
