XP Welcome / Exit Screens

Aug 28, 2007 9:59PM PDT

In two machines (XP Pro SP2) I'm in charge of, students installed cartoon character themes. I was able to find and delete most of the components, but the welcome/exit screens persist. I want to get the default XP welcome/exit screens back, but cannot find how to do it. I spent a few hours googling, and none of the "fixes" I found fixed it. Does anyone know the name and location of the file(s) that runs the welcome screen, or, at least, where to look for the unwanted theme screens and how to remove them permanently?

Presently, I have disengaged the "use welcome screen" option in Accounts to keep the unwanted screens from showing, but would like to get the stock XP screens working again. Any knowledge concerning this would, as always, be most appreciated.

Thank you.

I tried all of the above, including running the VBS script from the Kelly's Korner site. The relevant registry value is okay, too.

Weird..... I'll keep searching............

Thanks anyway.

try searching the registry itself.Start>run>regedit.

Edit tab>find>screens.

Did you look for the uninstaller in start>all programs.

Also theres a possibility its in add/remove.

I know, the odds are slim and none and slim just left town. Happy

Thank you both. After finding their location, by comparing relevant registry values with a good machine I was able to find the suspicious value, and edit it, and also learned the file name of the rogue theme, and delete it.

Thanks again.
