XP w/SP2 - Multiple programs keep opening up, randomly, non

by RussAI / December 27, 2009 3:20 AM PST

Hi. I always have Zone Alarm and Avira running. Then I use other prgs to keep my XP computer clean.
Well, a week or so ago, software began opening at random. It has gotten worse. The more it is on, the more open uop.

I have run Avira, Avast, AVG Rootkit, TrendMicro, and more. to no avail.
I ran chkdsk/r once, manualy and now, it wants to do a chkdsk at every boot.
The hard drive is only about 1 year - 1 1/2 years old.

Any ideas? - Please help!

Also, once you have things cleaned up, you should install SP3. There's no good excuse for not doing that by now.

Thanks for the ideas, but still nothing. The chkdsk request has stopped. But the random, multiple prgs. opening continues.
Any other ideas?

Are these regular programs that you can identify - like Paint, Outlook Express, Calculator? If so, that could be a bad keyboard. It could also be a speech recognition program gone awry. You might also want to take a peep at Scheduled Tasks (in System Tools folder) to see what's there.
