May 16, 2004 3:44AM PDT

I was reading a review for a hard drive and the reviewer stated that XP has a utilty that will configure and format second hard drive. Where do I find this and does it work good?

If you use the Start, Help and Support feature, type in DISK MANAGEMENT to find the native tool to configure and format a hard disk.

It works, but can you tell what would differentiate it to make it be called "good?"

Thanks Bob. Is this utility better than Norton Ghost?

Comparing a shovel to a light bulb.

Norton Ghost does something entirely different, so I have to ask that you tell the forum what you are trying to do.

LOL. Ok.

So Disk Management will only prepare a 2nd hard drive for use but Ghost will copy my old hard drive to my new one. Is that it?

In a nutshell, yes.

There are more considerations if a drive is larger than 137GB, but if not, then you don't have to open that can of worms.

How about this, Bob?

What would you do if you had a Maxtor 30 gb drive that is filled up and you got a WD 120 gb drive. Would you transfer everything with Ghost or would you rather put everything you want on one program at a time? Everything that is on my 30gb drive is what I want on my new drive. I have used Ghost before but I wasn't sure if Disk Management was the same thing or not.

I'd just move.

From 30GB to 120GB is an easy move for most versions of Ghost. Disk management is not a factor here or a tool to help in such a move.
