XP User Password

by RBGilmore / December 14, 2008 11:18 PM PST

Please help!!

I have a PC that was donated to our church. I plan to upgrade the memory and add some software to give it to a needy family. The problem is there are users set up and I do not have the administrators passwword.

How can I get a users password from this PC?

While I can't retrieve the passwords I can change the administrator account with NTPASSWD (see google) and log on with that account to change all the other passwords.

Is that good enough? (it's free too.)

Which Operating System?

If the computer is Windows XP, try restarting the system into Safe Mode.. If there is a hidden "administrator" login and IF the previous owners didn't create a password for that login, then simply select/type "adminstrator", leave the password blank and press the "Enter" key.. If the computer starts in the "administrator" login, you can then create a new admin user, give it an appropriate password, and go from there.

Hope this helps.
