Dec 5, 2003 5:04PM PST

I have recently bought a new bare bones computer. I want to install XP but i only have the upgrade version which i used on my old pc when i upgraded from windows 98. I no longer have the 98 disk. How can i install XP using just the upgrade disk?

You can't.

You can however find OS's for sale for less than what the full version of XP will cost you. Then you take your qualifying CD and show it to the XP Upgrade program when it asks for it.

If you still have you're old system, install the old HD as master and the new one(new system) as slave. Now, boot-up and use the upgrade XP CD. Actually, a previous version even if you "borrow" Sad from a friend will work, it just needs to see a past windows install or win-CD otherwise I don't see a workaround but to sell the upgrade CD and get a full version if from scratch.
