There are about 45 critical updates =about 43.2MB.But they are all selected at once and start to download all in one download.

Microsoft recently offered to send people a CD with all the updates released up through about October of last year. You probably will end up paying a small handling fee and shipping costs, but if you're dealing with a dialup situation it might be preferable. Once all those updates are installed, you will have a significantly fewer number to try and download.

1,6 gig is pretty small for XP
Feb 26, 2004 12:04AM PST

You may want to consider adding a new hard drive (very inexpensive these days). XP has a wonderful feature 'system restore' that may not operate effectively on a 'small' hard drive IMHO

Larry, my friend only uses this puter for mail and sm. games.Seems to be more than enough disk for her. Thanks for advice though.
Since it will take a while for that cd to arrive I think I will take Joes advice for now and try one at a time for the learning experience.

Thank's to all that replied. ><>

Buy her a gameboy and a roll of stamps

If "my friend only uses this puter for mail and sm. games" maybe it would be easier to buy her a gameboy and a roll of stamps (LOL!)

lmao at that reply Larry.Happy
I have just downloaded 5 updates withe no problem and will continue for now with the rest.
I will just do critical Glen.

Two more questions please.
1.I ran disc scan ok but it only flashes the results.I could'nt see the results as they don't stay on screen.Any way to keep results up and readable?
2.Ran defrag in safe mode and when finished it said some files not able to defrag and shows the list.Is this because of safe mode and is it the norm?
Im very new to XP. My puter is 98. ><>

After reviewing updates. Select the update(s) you wish to install. All others, click on remove. Down load and install them. The next time you search for updates. It will only show the ones you did not install. Repeat until until you have installed the ones you want.
Hope this helps That is what I do. PS read more info. There may be some you do not need. I have one for my video card that I do not need.

Fish,

Joe has a good idea and you apparently decided to go with it. Here is another idea if you have a friend with high speed IT connection and CD-RW. This could also be done at an Internet Cafe` or maybe the local library. Download these and save to CD-R from where you could install. The largest by far is the SP-1 (or SP-1a). My recommendation would be to install all of the Critical Updates. It's your choice if any Recommended Updates are needed. Sometimes they do more harm than good.

Best of luck to you and your friend!

Happy
