XP--system restore hangs up during "registering components"

Jun 23, 2007 2:08AM PDT

windows xp home--I'm doing a system restore and it hangs on the screen that says "Performing final tasks" during the "registering components" phase.

It's been over an hour, i went on MS.com, their site says this phase may take an "extended period of time", and I'd prefer not to pay them $59 to find out how long an extende period of time actually is.

Anyone have any insight into this? I just want to make sure my computer isn't locked up.

Thanks.

That devices that XP doesn't natively support are unplugged. XP can't handle most USB devices until the recovery is complete and we've reinstalled the drivers for motherboard and devices.

...and nothing is plugged into it. Should this hangup phase be for hours?
