Think about it.

Not only does what you install in this OS matter, order matters. Imagine the poor soul that installed those titles in the order of A, B then C. The next machine had item B already so they installed items A and C.

Then they find the machines don't behave the same.

This and other mysteries are the stuff of PROCESS EXPLORER and many weeks of investigation.

Try other antivirus packages. We have the Google Pack offering, Free AVG, AVAST and you could go on and on. NOD32 often is what many that are speed conscious end up with.

As we have found it to be a combination of this and that, I consider my contribution to this to be at an end. I have now unsubscribed as all that is left is for you to decide what solutions you want to mix on this machine.

I will try and play round trying different things as I have found the cause. Well I have paid for a 12 month subscription with Trend so I am not going to waste it. Worst comes to worst I will reinstall XP
If I did reinstall XP from an Sp2 cd after July 2010 and kept sp3 on another cd to install after sp2 is installed. WOuld that be Ok?

Thanks for all your help

Still happens ...

I know this is an old thread, and now I'm on the wrong forum (because my issue is in Windows 7) but I used this one to decide how to fix a similar issue. I installed Chrome last week, then started experiencing 20 minute Windows 7 boot times. Did a little research, tried removing a few programs from Startup in msconfig. No help. Having read this thread, I uninstalled Chrome and am now back to Windows 7 boot time of about 30 seconds. There was definitely and absolutely an issue related to Chrome. It isn't THAT fast nor cool. Gone and forgotten. Appreciate this post and all comments.

I'd start a new thread in the Windows 7 forum.

And there is a Google Chrome Forum which is more specific.

Let's be clear that sometimes the Antivirus Suite or a concoction of installed software causes this. The old TeaTimer issue is pretty well known. But I've yet to find it to be a Chrome issue. That is, it's been Chrome and something else to cause this.
