What is the main screen?

There are so many that I could pick from.

To disable the Welcome screen, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click User Accounts.
2. Click Change the way users log on or off.
3. Click to un-select the Use the Welcome screen for fast and easy logon checked box.
4. Click OK.

Frank, a question? ... or two ;)

In reply to: Re: XP start without welcome screen

(1) If I uncheck the Welcome Screen block, does this mean I will need a Password to sign in?

(2) If a password is needed what is the procedure? When XP was setup none was added... only me as Administrator.

What I want is for others not to be able to open Windows without a password. At the same time I have some concern of locking MYSELF out. Any advice is appreciated. Am not concerned about experts breaking the security... only to keep prying eyes out.

Thanks,

Glenn

It depends on if you're having another user account setup (Glenn30 as an example).

To be able to add another user account, again Glenn30 for example, you have to logon as an Administrator then go to Start\Control Panel\User Account and pick "Add new account"...

However, on both questions if you installed TweakUI (as David mentioned), it will take over the control of this situation, in otherwords, it will override all other logon options.

Start windows without typing password.

Press the window and the r keys to open run and type "control userpasswords2" without quotes and you can do it from there. If you have any troubles from there just ask.

For a single-user setup without password XP should boot straight to the Desktop.

Or you can use TweakUI from PowerToys.
There is an auto-logon setting.

XP SP3 start without welcome screen

In reply to: Re: XP start without welcome screen

"For a single-user setup without password XP should boot straight to the Desktop." tis worked for SP2.

I updated to SP3 and this no longer works. Single user with no password still displays the welcome screen. How can I bypass this without having to load TweakUI or any other apps.

There must be a registry key somewhere.
