XP SP2 Update after-effects

After installing SP2 and booting for the first time, I have a couple of errors so far...

1. I'm getting the NT authority/RPC terminated unexpectedly error. I haven't found much help relating to the update and the error. It seems to all fall back on the Blaster worm. Any tips/ ideas?

2. I seem to have lost my taskbar and start menu access. I know how to add/remove taskbars, etc., but where does Windows keep them at to enable/disable?

Hopefully, this is all that is wrong. IE and everthing else that I've tried seems to work.
Thanks!

It seemed kind of odd that I would get it by downloading the update from Microsoft. I'm not saying it couldn't happen though. I was guessing that maybe there was another problem with the update.

SP2 is giving a wake up call to a lot of people that their computers are not up to snuff. That is why they are stressing to check for spyware and run anti-virus to see about the crud. If a computer is in OK condition the SP2 should not cause a problem. There is no virus, spyware, or bugs on the SP2 CD.

I never had either/or before the update, which doesn't make sense that I got any viruses or spyware in the update process. If I could just get my taskbar/start menu back, I could get the rest straightened out. I've never had a problem with viruses/spyware in the past. All your help is pointing towards a virus so I guess either I'll dig deeper or uninstall the update.

I can't do anything because I have no taskbar, system tray, start menu, etc. It's not hidden because I've checked all around my screen edge in case in was dragged to the edge. I ran my antivirus and spyware apps and didn't turn anything up. Any other ideas?

Do post in the Virus and Security Forum since it was cured before there. It was yet another trojan/pest.
