XP SP2 Installation

I have downloaded SP2 but when I try to install it about half way through the installation I get a message box stating "ACCESS DENIED". Has anyone else experienced this and if so how do I correct it? I am running XP Pro upgrade OS and do not have the OEM XP Home disk. HELP!!

If you are asking for help to troubleshoot a computer-related problem, please be sure to include all the necessary information (ie: operating system, model number, hardware, software, etc) that will help others identify your problem for a speedy resolution.

Bill,

Are you attempting the install by using Windows Update and their "incremental" download? Or....

Are you using the 266 mb "full" installer file from Microsoft, or from some other download location. If using the full installer file and if you didn't download it from the Microsoft location, I recommend doing so at the link below. Other sites aren't certified to have the download, although they are releasing it. There have been a few problems from other sites.:

Is there any sign of which file or files you are receiving the "Access Denied" error on? At this time, I've installed SP2 on quite a few computers and I've not seen that error. Still, all of the computers that I've installed it on have been clean" installs of XP, not Upgrades.

My thought is that you've got a "read only" folder, or file somewhere that needs to have it's attributs changed, but you'll need to identify which folder or file that it is.
