XP-SP2 Auto Update Versus XP-SP2 CD

by bobbyknott / March 18, 2005 6:38 AM PST

I am currently Using Windows XP-SP1. I have XP-SP2 Auto Update downloaded but NOT installed and Windows update notifies me that updates are available for installation. I also have an XP-SP2 CD that I have not yet installed. It has been suggested that I install using the XP-SP2 CD NOT the downloaded XP-SP2. If I install using the XP-SP2 CD, will the downloaded XP-SP2 still notify me that updates are available to install? If YES, how do I ?turn off the Auto Update notification? or delete the downloaded XP-SP2 Auto Update.

They're the same thing

The only major difference, is that the download version will download whatever stuff is necessary to update your system. The CD has the files necessary to update any version of XP to SP2.

Ultimately, they'll end up installing exactly the same thing.
