XP Shortcut to folder causes crash

Mar 14, 2004 8:38PM PST

I have a shortcut to a folder on my desktop (that no longer exists, I think), and whenever I click on it or try to open it or delete it, explorer crashes and restarts. Any tips on how I can delete this black hole of a shortcut?

"I have a shortcut to a folder on my desktop (that no longer exists, I think), and whenever I click on it or try to open it or delete it, explorer crashes and restarts"

Press Start, Run, CMD and press enter.

Use the CD command to ...

CD "C:\Documents and Settings\youraccountnamehere\Desktop

Now use the DIR to list the contents and DIR /P to do so with a pause.

Use the DEL command to delete the entry.

No DOS knowledge required.

THanks, that worked, not sure why I didn't try that already!

Cheers,
