Dec 2, 2011 12:22AM PST

Hi
I have a notebook XP that can see and send to a XP desktop. Desktop can see Notebook but can not see contents or see folders. The path was not found or don't have permission. sharing is on everything, same network name. Totally lost on this so looking for help.

Let's start with basics.

That desktop is logged in as "john"?

Ok, does "john" have an account on the laptop (named "john")?

Besides firewalls you have to set to allow sharing I find this basic item to be met with "Does it matter?"

And you didn't reply about accounts?

Why?

Since Norton is involved, be sure to ask Symantec how to allow sharing. It changes with versions and I don't use that product. Same for McAfee but both have continued to block sharing even with the firewall off in past versions.

If you don't want to deal with accounts, enable the guest and be done with it. Here's how.

Thank you, your response is was great
I actually turned off both firewalls and rebooted both - act - my program started to sync right away. they are not on the internet so I am not worried about bugs right now
I have a server with Norton on it that the internet is connected to first.
I hope that since this is working the sharing of pictures etc should be good as well
again Thank you
John
