XP settings question

Jun 5, 2007 3:39AM PDT

I'm using a computer with XP Home, with only one user account. Previously, when I was away from the computer for a spell the screen-saver would kick on and when I returned, a quick wave of the mouse would put me back on my desktop.

Inexplicably, all of a sudden when my computer goes into screen saver mode, I now have this ******** "Welcome" page come up where I have to click on my user account icon to get back to my desktop. This would be a trivial annoyance at best if it were not for the fact that whatever "mode" my computer is going into where it brings up this screen cuts off any running processes, like downloads or installing programs.

How do I disable this "feature"?

Sorry for the vague title, but I didn't quite know how to label this question. Thanks for any help!

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Power Options

What are your settings under the various tabs?

Try This?

On XP, RIGHT click on a blank area of the desktop, select "Properties", then click on the "Screen Saver" tab, then the "Power" button, then the "Advanced" tab.. UNCHECK the box next to "Prompt for a password when resuming from standby". Click on "apply", then OK.

Hope this helps.

Got it...

Thanks for the ideas, guys - got me looking in the right places.
Hidden in plain sight on the Screen Saver tab under Display Properties is a little check box: "On resume, display Welcome screen." Nuff said.
Also, I clicked on the Power button on the same tab and disabled hibernation, shutting off of hard disk, and standby mode. This two-fisted approach has solved the problem.
Thanks again!

Had to do all this with my little torrent slave box. It would go into a standby and not get woken up by lan. That means I had no way of controlling it because I only used tightVNC... silly power settings.
