XP Service Pack 2

by patx3 / November 20, 2004 1:40 AM PST

I tried a number of times to install XP SP2. Each time after going through the entire install process and nearing the end I get a message"access denied". Then I have to go through the process of uninstalling. I have contacted Microsoft and my ISP, the reply I get does not solve the problem.

Any Ideas?

Did you prepare properly? You can't leave out ANY steps at all or you will have problems.

You have to be completely prepared for SP2 which means. Spyware free, Adware free, virus free BEFORE you install SP2, Also go to this link from Microsoft which also has links inside of it that will tell you what to do to prepare, including programs that are known to have problems which you may have to patch BEFORE you install SP2. Also go to your computer manufacturer's web site to see if any programs that came with your computer (non Microsoft programs) that need some sort of a patch BEFORE you install SP2. After all of the above, you should have no problems. Here is the Microsoft link. Hope this helps.

I installed SP2 without problems,(surprised at first) using the downloaded file (size 266 MB). It took some 30 minutes. Before installing, I

? checked for viruses and parasites.
? ran check disk and then defrag.
? ran disk cleanup.
? closed all opened programs, including disabling screen savers, anti virus, task schedulling, ....

Maybe you can try that.

If a Group Policy setting NoWindowsUpdate has been set in the following registry key, the WU site itself displays an Access Denied error:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft \Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
