General discussion

Xp problems need help very annoying

Jul 14, 2007 1:55PM PDT

Okay I don't know whats wrong with my pc but for some reason its not performing as good as its supposed to be. I cant access the graphics properties from right clicking the desktop and when I try through the control panel the control panel screen turns white. Another problem I have is the pc locks up frequently and Im not able to bring up task manager even if hit ctrl+alt+delete. Also my pc takes very long to shutdown and this is a new amd athlong 64 3200 processor and it wasn't doing that when i installed it about a week ago. These problems don't happen in safe mode though only the slow shutdown seems apparent.

Since there are no problems in safe mode you can eliminate certain things,LINK

Have you run any scans?

Did you try system restore?

found 2 viruses..

Okay for some reason I can't run trend micro online scanner because it asks for java but when I try to install it I get a message "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.". I then ran the avg antispyware and it found mostly tracking cookies and a trojan worm "Trojan.Small.edz". I then ran a kaspersky online scanner and it found a infection it was another trojan file winrkq32.dll and I deleted that also. I haven't tried to go back to regular mode yet Im still searching for other ways to scan and detect all the viruses I may have.

Everything seems normal again

I rebooted again into safe mode after I removed the viruses but now Im back to normal mode and the task manager comes up whenever and everything else works. Im downloading kaspersky anti virus and will do another scan in safe mode to make sure I have everything sorted out.
