XP PRO Won't boot

by djpinelle / April 20, 2006 11:54 PM PDT

I purchased a ''used'' 80 gig western digital harddrive from an ebay seller. I have generic pc with
1.7 celeron processor and have been running Win98se.
Upon installing the new drive when i boot i get a blue screen saying windows was shut down to protect my computer. I put the drive in an external usb and looked to see if XP was infact on the drive. Everything looks kosher. Approx 1.8 gigs of space is taken up out of the 80 gigs.
I tried booting to safe mode and last configuration that worked. Neither was successful, the blue screen keeps coming up. I can see the Windows logo for a tenth of a second or so and then the blue screen pops up.
The seller said he was selling the drive because his motherboard failed and was parting out his machine.
Any ideas how to make the windows usable?

and they gave the Key for Pro also, then you will probably need to reinstall unless your computer is identical to the one this drive came from (sounds like it isn't) If you have the Key for XP Pro there is no loss. If they did not give you the Key, ask them for it as it sounds like they were selling the OS as well. If you do not get the Key, then it was not a good deal as you ended up with just a harddrive and an useless OS.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
