XP Pro starts System Configuration Utility at startup

Feb 15, 2004 11:41PM PST

Nothing is wrong, I click cancel and it goes away, but is annoying. Why is it starting or what can I do to make it stop ? MicroSoft says to make sure all items are checked and it will go away, IT DON'T.

When the notification window appears at startup, put a check mark in the line which says something to the effect of "Do not show at startup".

try to run adaware just to be sure no programs are continually changing your start up programs...just an idea.

The reason the box is appearing is because someone or something (probably something) has changed your startup config. To check if everything's in order, go to Start, Run and then type in "msconfig" (without quote marks). In the window that appears make sure everything is ticked in all the tabs. If not, that is why the window is appearing.

Of course, there should just be a little check box that says "do not show this message again", which is a much easier solution, but you may want to know why it is happening.

Hope this helps.
