XP PRO shutdown/restart hangup

by skipman / August 3, 2004 9:52 AM PDT

I've tried the microsoft help but nothing seems to fix this problem. After logging out and saving settings the computer hangs on "Windows is shutting down". it won't shutdown or restart. Anyone know what this is and how to fix it? I have a brand new computer too.

This screams "WARRANTY!"

Why not make it their problem?

--------------------------------

Your post left out details such as make/model (the Forum Tip?) and more, but you can look at the XP Shutdown article at http://www.aumha.org/articles.htm if you are forced to fix it yourself.

My list is:

1. Latest BIOS version. Hint: New doesn't mean they put in the latest BIOS.
2. Motherboard drivers. Many machines need it, Microsoft doesn't install them for you.

In short, the motherboard maker's web site or PESTER the supplier for that information.

As to motherboard drivers, MICROSOFT DOES NOT FETCH OR INSTALL THEM FOR YOU. To get latest, you download them and install them.

Review the Aumha XP Shutdown article.
