"Hi! I'd like to know, is Windows XP Professional very much different from Windows 2000? I mean in terms of its its management, its system, security, NTFS file system and its troubleshooting skills?"
In short, 2000 doesn't have system restore. It's considered a Professional OS in which you'll know how to use the Recovery Console, backup and restore the OS when needed and more. It does have more tools than Windows NT had, but imagine the knowledge you may need to fix a broken NT or 2000 box compared to XP?
An amateur computer technician has never repaired a Windows 2000 box in the 3 plus years I've had 2000. The usual amateur will reinstall the OS and rarely has respect for the user's files.
XP at least has a few more goodies.

Hi! I'd like to know, is Windows XP Professional very much different from Windows 2000? I mean in terms of its its management, its system, security, NTFS file system and its troubleshooting skills?
As an 'amateur' computer technician, will I benefit MUCH from having both Windows 2000 and XP in my computer? This is because for Windows 95, 98 and ME, I feel that their troubleshooting skills are virtually the same, therefore once I have experience on one of them, I can deal with all of them quite painlessly, but can I assume the same for 2000 and XP?
Thanks a lot for your advice! I'm going to install my new 40 GB hard disk soon, so I'm considering whether to do a dual-boot or not!
