I've also found issues with SATA drivers and XP CDs before XP SP2.
Lesson learned. Get the XP SP2 CD to install and it will work fine.
After many go rounds the testing at our office found no payoff for multiple partitions but plenty of downside and even speed loss for some applications. Many myths out there so be ready to start seeing them posted.

I recently needed to rebuild my computer and when I was initially installing the 400GB SATA hard drive I could only create a partition of 130ish GB. Once the system was installed I used Partition Magic to create an extended partition, then merged the two together for the maximum amount. Is this the only way to do this?
Regarding performance, is it better to have 2 partitions when it gets this big, or seeing they're part of the same drive, does it not make any difference?
Thanks for your help!
