XP Pro / IE 6 SP1 Printing Problem

Mar 15, 2004 9:39PM PST

Whenever I try to print from a web page, all I get is a blank page. Print preview shows up blank as well. I've reset all the settings to default, but it didn't help.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Tim

Bob,

I tried the steps suggested in your post. The registry entry does not exist. Any other suggestions

What registry entry?
Mar 16, 2004 12:17AM PST

I re-read the article and no registry entry is noted.

"RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, disable the Auto-Select option for encoding. To do so, on the View menu, point to Encoding, and then click to clear Auto-Select."

There is an similar article about this that lists XP, but the answer was the same, so I didn't bother looking for it.

Something odd is going on in your reply. What article number are you reading?

Dive in.

Be sure to check that the article applies. The one I noted has a same/similar one for XP and I noted that you were welcome to search for it.

In closing, did you try changing the select as noted?

Instead of sharing this in your post, we get to dance around a few times sorting out your last post. Write more, be detailed about what you are doing, what works, if you changed a setting or not.

I tried the steps listed in your post, which was changing the auto select feature.

Sorry for the dance around. It's been a long time since I've posted and after your holier than thou attitude, I remember why I stopped coming here.

I was under the impression that you were here to help, but again I was mistaken. I now remember many posts from you making the end user who needed help feel stupid for not being as smart as you.

No need to reply as I won't be back to hear your crying and ranting about what I did wrong and so on. In fact, if you have the ability to delete my post and my account, help yourself, I'm sure it will make you feel better about yourself.

It;s like this.

I know there is a very similar article that notes the very same change. It cures many. As it's my time to spend as I see fit, so I note the one I found on the quick and share it with a note about the applicability.

If this isn't helpful, then we get to try something else.

If you feel its not apropro to ask that you work along with the issue and tell all, then what direction would you like to take?

I noted the registry wasn't mentioned issue to try to grind that out of the way so we were communicating clearly on the issue, but now you want to discuss some other aspect that has nothing to do with your printer.

Your choice on the direction here. I'd love to see you fix it.

Tim. Your choice.

''Registr'' entry??

1. Printers are usually among the easiest peripheral devices to install and use but if you're experiencing printing problems with IE, be sure that you have obtained the latest IE SP1:

a. "Troubleshooting General Printing Problems (Q314085)."

b. "Windows XP Printing How-to Articles."

c. "Internet Explorer Printing Issues."

2. When you receive, "an error has occurred in the script on this page" when printing from the Web, turn off Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) (Tools, Internet Explorer, Advanced tab, Settings and clear the check box). Please note that clearing this box subsequently circumvents the use of IE add-ons such as the Yahoo and/or Google Toolbar.
