Clarification Request
you were using both XP and W7?
Apr 3, 2016 7:06AM PDT

If so, then was XP fully installed to a partition on the drive, or was it installed as a virtual system?

If the former, Windows 10 should have added the XP to it's bootloader when installing. If the latter, then you need to find the virtual drive it was on and set it up again in Windows 10 as virtual system.

You can't upgrade from XP to Windows 10. That's a clean install.
- Maybe you forgot to install it dual boot?
- Or maybe it was the virtual XP that was available with Windows 7 and no longer is available in Windows 10? Then use another virtual machine (like virtual box) to install Windows XP in, or install it on a second hard disk or a second PC.

Maybe the best solution is to ask that "someone" to fix it for you. Obviously he knew what he did.

Answer
It's Not Clear: Dual Boot or Windows XP Mode On Win7
Mar 29, 2016 12:31PM PDT

If it's an XP Mode setup, where you can launch XP from within a virtual window from Windows 7, then it's not supported in Windows 10. That would explain why it's not working now. If you need a virtual XP installation so you can run older software, there are ways to get it done, such as the use of VirtualBox, etc., but you'll need to reinstall XP again. Trying the "Compatibility" options might work for you, or.... See the links below for virtual XP installation options:

Hope this helps.

But in Windows 7

XP mode is downloaded for free with no license required. They would need a license to activate XP running in virtual box.

2 OS'S?

Since when can you run 2 different OS's? Your older software is not available (up-to-date)? What older software are you talking about? If I were you I would just install win 10, and forget about win XP (which Microsoft doesn't support any more).

(NT) look up dual boot and learn
