With difficulty. NOT SUPPORTED.

If you google HOW TO INSTALL XP TO AN USB DRIVE you discover 2 things.

1. There are ways.
2. It's rough or impossible if you have the wrong XP CD and is not supported.

In addition to what Bob said, if you actually go ahead and set it up, you'll often find that while it's possible, it doesn't mean that it will be easy or that it will work very well. One thing people often discover at the end of a long arduous journey like this, is that the OS will only work on a very limited number of systems with hardware very similar to that of the one used to create the image.

Once you get past the geeky "because I can" aspect of it, there's next to no use for such a thing.
